Sphacelaria cervicornis C. Agardh, 1827: 640 (`curvicornis') (type locality: Trieste, Italy).—Lawson, 1980: 29.
Note: Lawson (1980), citing Bornet (1888), incorrectly recorded this taxon as occurring in Djibouti. In fact, Bornet reported it from Île de Kamarane in the southern Red Sea. According to Prud'homme van Reine (1982: 261), the type of Sphacelaria cervicornis represents rhizoids of Stypocaulon scoparium (Linnaeus) Kützing (1843b: 293) (Conferva scoparia Linnaeus, 1753: 1165; type locality: "in mari Europaeo''), a species not reported from the Indian Ocean.
