Nitophyllum reptans P. Crouan & H. Crouan, 1851: 365 (type locality: Brest, Finistère, France).
Acrosorium reptans (P. Crouan & H. Crouan) Kylin, 1924: 77.—Stephenson, 1947: 301 (with query).
Note: Wynne (1989b: 249), after discussing the taxonomic status of this species, concluded that a preponderance of evidence supports the opinion that it is a growth form of Cryptopleura ramosa (Hudson) Lily Newton (1931: 332) (Ulva ramosa Hudson, 1762: 476; type locality: Lancaster, England). Since Cryptopleura is not known from the Indian Ocean, it seems likely that the Stephenson record from East London, eastern Cape Province, South Africa, is referable to some species of Acrosorium other than A. reptans.
