Pseudovalonia forbesii (Harvey) Iyengar, 1938b: 191–194, figs. 1–4.—Aleem, 1984: 920, 921.

INDIAN OCEAN DISTRIBUTION: Aldabra Islands, Andaman Islands, Australia, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Laccadive Islands, Madagascar, Maldives (Addu Atoll), Mauritius, Nicobar Islands, Réunion, Seychelles, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Tanzania.

Note: This species was distributed by Harvey (1857a: no. 75) in his Ceylon exsiccata under the name Valonia forbesii, without a description. Boergesenia J. Feldmann and Pseudovalonia Iyengar were both published in 1938. The names Pseudovalonia and P. forbesii first appeared in an abstract published prior to 15 May (Iyengar, 1938a: 132–133), but their validity in that publication is equivocal since they were accompanied by only a few dubiously descriptive words. (See Note to Liagoropsis schrammii [p. 129].) The only distinctive character of Pseudovalonia mentioned by Iyengar was the production of quadriflagellate swarmers. Moreover, this character was said to occur also in Valonia macrophysa Kützing (q.v.). It thus seems that there is only a very weak claim, if any, for valid publication of the names Pseudovalonia and P. forbesii in Iyengar's abstract. Boergesenia was fully validated on 16 May (J. Feldmann, 1938b), while Pseudovalonia was fully validated in June (Iyengar, 1938b).
