IOC entry for Gelidium anthonini

Previous entry: Gelidium amansii

* Gelidium anthonini Lamouroux

Gelidium anthonini Lamouroux, 1813: 129, pl. 9: figs. 6, 7 (type locality: "Ind. Orient.'').—C. Agardh, 1822 [1822–1823]: 331.— Kützing, 1849: 766.— G. Martens, 1868: 94–95.

INDIAN OCEAN DISTRIBUTION: Indian Ocean.

Note: Although Lamouroux (1813) did not provide a description of Gelidium anthonini, his illustration suffices to validate the name in accordance with Art. 44.2, a special provision for non-vascular plants. Lamouroux did not give the derivation of the epithet and it is possible that anthoninii, the spelling used by Kützing and G. Martens, is correct. The type, which presumably is at Caen (CN), apparently has not been studied.
