NotesExcluded by Malcolm et al. 2009. Needs update to Ptychostomum meesioides (Kindberg) J. R. Spence. According to Spence (pers. comm.) a California packet was determined to be this species. We have reviewed the Bryum holdings at CAS, MO, NY, UBC and UC and have not been able to locate a collection of Bryum meesioides from California. According to Ireland (1977), the gametophyte of this species is nearly indistinguishable from that of Bryum pallens but several diagnostic characters of the sporophyte readily separate these two related taxa. It is probable that Bryum meesioides remains among undetermined Bryum collections in California herbaria. We expect it to become documented for northern California.
