Dendroalsia E. Britton, 1905.

Dendroalsia is one of the most conspicuous of California mosses. It often will grow in almost pure stands on large areas of the trunks of Quercus. Dendroalsia is especially easy to recognize when the plant is dry — each of the fronds curls downward so that the entire branched plant resembles a clinched fist with its curved fingers representing the branches. Dendroalsia is related to Alsia, and their intriguing biogeography is discussed under Alsia.
