Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 includes a manuscript (Clark & Summers, Madrono, in press, expected to be published in early 2013) about the discovery of a population of Sphaeropteris cooperi on Santa Catalina Island that has reportedly become naturalized, involving at least 20 individuals. [Although no gametophytes or other evidence that the plants are reproducing were reported, the species is considered to be naturalized by the authors because all of plants that were physically accessible were observed to be actively releasing spores, plants differed in size, possibly due to differences in age, and photographs of the population were found recently that date to 2007. Because the species is considered a noxious weed in all of Hawaii as well as other wet tropical areas, it is thought to have the potential to become invasive in CA, and at least in part for that reason it is appropriate to consider it a naturalized part of the flora, and to treat it formally so has to facilitate its monitoring.]
