Correspondence 1 30 Jan 2007 e-mail from Jeff Greenhouse see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates that according to International Plant Names Index-Index Kewensis and The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] author Kenton L. Chambers, Leontodon taraxacoides (Vill.) Willd. ex Mérat is an illegitimate later homonym of Leontodon taraxacoides Hoppe & Hornsch. (Deutschl. Fl. (Sturm), Abt. I, Phanerog. Band 11(Heft 41): [unnumbered text & plate?]. 1821), and that the replacement name to be used in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] is Leontodon saxatilis Lam. (Flore Françoise, ou Descriptions Succinctes de Toutes les Plantes qui Croissent Naturellement en France...Paris 2:115. 1779 [dt. 1778; publ. post 21 Mar 1779]). [Therefore, Leontodon taraxacoides (Vill.) Willd ex Mérat is a later homonym and therefore illegitimate, being replaced for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] by Leontodon saxatilis Lam..]
