b Hrusa et al., Madrono 49(2)61-98. 2002: DIST: CCo: Hrusa et al. Current Status: Naturalized outside of wildlands: DOC: San Francisco Co.: Golden Gate Park, local patch at junction of Crossover Drive and John F. Kennedy Drive. Sept. 11, 1993, B. Ertter 12269 (UC): NOTES: Passiflora mollissima auct. non (Kunth) L.H. Bailey as discussed under P. tarminiana. Freely reseeding in garden situation on Catalina Ave., Berkeley (Alameda Co.).
Initial Editorial Comments according to Source b, in California naturalized outside of wildlands, and conditions of cited occurrences seem not to qualify for inclusion in the flora according to criteria employed by Jepson Flora Project (21 Feb 2003)
Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 11 Dec 2001 e-mail from Barbara Ertter (including e-mail from Doug Goldman, Flora North America author) see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates Passiflora mollissima does not occur in CA, that material previously identified as such has been determined by Flora North America author to be Passiflora tarminiana and Passiflora mixta.
Correspondence 2 Treatment and author notes submitted for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] see Comment 2
Editorial Comments 2 Correspondence 2 evidently indicates, in a note under Passiflora tarminiana Coppens & V. E. Barney, that for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] Passiflora mixta L. f. is to be treated as "a waif in SnFrB. [As an active waif, the taxon would have been partially treated (included in key, with description only online), while as an historical waif (not precisely defined, but generally taken to mean not collected in 50 years or more) it would have been dismissed as such in a note. It is not clear which is the case here.]
Editorial Summary and Current Status
Editorial Summary rejection, waif
Current Status JFP-3, accepted name for taxon occurring in CA only as a waif and/or garden escape, not naturalized
