Coronilla valentina L. subsp. glauca (L.) Batt.
FABACEAE
·

Information from the Index of California Plant Names (ICPN)
Initial Editorial Analysis 26 Sep 2017 [but should have been made earlier, as the change evidently was made in treatment in time for TJM2]
Source of Report for California Rosatti SMASCH notes: Naturalizing along roadside, according to collection label; genus, species, variety not treated in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1]
Initial Editorial Comments one record in SMASCH, UC1587680, but only in Folder Name (collecting event and voucher data still to be entered); in no way mentioned in Kartesz & Meacham
Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 $ 8 Feb 2002, from Margriet Wetherwax see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates that the UC specimen on which report is based has not been found, and that, according to Dieter Wilken at SBBG, "Jim Blakley has no recollection of it from anywhere else on the island" and cited reports in the literature include no subspecifics [infraspecific taxa]; thus, the taxon is rejected as not naturalized in CA. [According to Robert F. Thorne (not Raven), in Santa Catalina Flora (Aliso 6(3):1-77. 1967), p. 48, "*Coronilla valentina L. Ornamental Mediterranean perennial collected once in sandy soil at bottom of small canyon 1 mi. S of Avalon on rocky ridge, few in shade, to 2ft tall, Blakley 5607, Apr. 10, 1963 (SBBG)", and on p. 25, "Asterisks indicate naturalized species." The combination of the missing UC specimen, probably from the mainland (Richard Moe, pers. comm. 2002) and indicated on the collection label to be "naturalizing along roadside", and Thorne's indication that it is naturalized on Santa Catalina Island (as represented there by more than a single plant), support a Current Status of tentative 2. Inclusion of Coronilla valentina L. subsp. glauca (L.) Batt. based on SMASCH record (folder name only) of the missing UC1587680.]
Correspondence 2 Treatment and author notes submitted for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] by Martin F. Wojciechowski see Comment 2
Editorial Comments 2 Correspondence 2 indicates, without explanation, that for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2], Coronilla valentina L. subsp. glauca (L.) Batt. is to be treated as a cultivated plant.
Correspondence 3 Treatment published in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] by Martin F. Wojciechowski see Comment 3
Editorial Comments 3 Correspondence 3 indicates that for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] Coronilla valentina L. subsp. glauca (L.) Batt. is to be treated as a waif.
