| Editorial Comments 1 | Correspondence 1 indicates that this should be rejected since statement in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1] under Echinocereus engelmannii indicates division of this species into vars. is not satisfactory; it also states that it did not have to be addressed in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1] because it was listed as synonym in Munz 1974. [Echinocereus engelmannii (Engelm.) Lemaire var. engelmannii was not addressed in any way in Munz or Munz Supplement, and was fully recognized and treated in Munz Southern California Flora (Munz, 1974, p. 311). Since, in addition, the statement in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1] went on to say "More study needed", it seems most appropriate to retain Current Status as unresolved. It is notable that "Munz 1974" was not addressed in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1], Appendix III, p. 1323, although it was the editorial policy generally to exclude from treatment in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1] any name treated as a synonym in Munz (1959), Munz Supplement (1968), or Munz-s (1974).] | |||||
