Correspondence 1 | 10 Jul 2007 e-mail from Jeff Greenhouse see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 | Correspondence 1 indicates that Tanacetum potentilloides (The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1] synonym of Sphaeromeria potentilloides) was published by A. Gray in Proceedings of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences 9: 204. 1874, based on Artemisia potentilloides also published by Gray (Proceedings of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences 6: 551. 1865). [Therefore, author citation of The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1] synonym corrected to Tanacetum potentilloides (A. Gray) A Gray, from Tanacetum potentilloides A Gray previously in this Index, 13 Jul 2007.]
Correspondence 2 | 8 Jan 2012 e-mail from Bruce Baldwin see Comment 2
Editorial Comments 2 | Correspondence 2 indicates: publication of a paper in which Garcia et al. (Amer. J. Bot. 98: 638–653. 2011) showed ITS + ETS nuclear rDNA data that Sphaeromeria is phylogenetically nested in Artemisia, as mentioned in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] under the Sphaeromeria genus description, and that Chris Hobbs' work confirms that result with additional sampling in Sphaeromeria as well as with cpDNA work; and that new combinations in Artemisia were made in Western North American Naturalist [71(2):158-163. 2011], except in the case of Sphaeromeria potentilloides var. nitrophila (with 7 records in CCH), leaving Artemisia potentilloides with no infraspecific names.
Pending data | Artemisia potentilloides A. Gray may become the accepted name for Sphaeromeria potentilloides (A. Gray) A. Heller
