Source of Report for California The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1]
Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 Treatment and author notes submitted for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] by Stephen Ward McCabe see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates that for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] Dudleya attenuata (S. Watson) Moran subsp. orcuttii (Rose) Moran is to be treated as a synonym of Dudleya attenuata (S. Watson) Moran subsp. attenuata.
Correspondence 2 13 July 2022 e-mail from Bruce Baldwin, including forwarded e-mail from Stephen Ward McCabe see Comment 2
Editorial Comments 2 Correspondence 2 indicates that, according to McCabe, "In the JM2 I listed the taxon as Dudleya attenuata subsp. attenuata because that is how Reid Moran last treated it. He gave almost no info why he lumped. Later I saw attenuata attenuata in the wild and grew it together with D. attenuata orcuttii. I came to realize that the subspecies should both be recognized. D. attenuata orcuttii barely gets into California. Maybe 100 meters in. D. attenuata attenuata is much further south. There is a third subspecies even further south." [Therefore, Dudleya attenuata (S. Watson) Moran subsp. attenuata excluded from flora of CA, Dudleya attenuata (S. Watson) Moran subsp. orcuttii (Rose) Moran included in flora of CA.]
