Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 21 Jul 2003 e-mail from Jeff Greenhouse see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates that this combination was published earlier than the 1912 reference to Thellung, by Giovanni Arcangeli (Arcang. in Authors of Plant Names), in Compendio della Flora Italiana (p. 593), in 1882; the infraspecific epithet maritima was published with rank indicated by the Greek letter gamma (Arcangeli used Greek letters for subspecies, Roman letters for varieties), so that he correct author citation is Beta vulgaris L. subsp. maritima (L.) Arcang. [Author citation corrected to Beta vulgaris L. subsp. maritima (L.) Arcang., from Beta vulgaris L. subsp. maritima (L.) Thell., 24 Jul 2003.]
