Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 3 Jun 2003 e-mail from Dan Post see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates that Zostera pacifica S. Watson is "not included" in Flora North America, noting that in Munz it is listed as synonym of Zostera marina.
Correspondence 2 16 Apr 2009 e-mail from Dieter Wilken see Comment 2
Editorial Comments 2 Correspondence 2 indicates that Zostera pacifica S. Watson was treated as specifically distinct from Zostera marina in A Flora of Santa Cruz Island, in part authored by Wilken, based on specimens at SBBG as well as a study by Coyer et al. (2008 Ann Bot 101:73--87), which was based largely on microsatellite data yet nevertheless demonstrated substantial introgression between the two species. [Therefore, recognition of Zostera pacifica S. Watson as a distinct species is retained, even though the name is not mentioned in the treatment for Flora North America, even as a synonym.]
