VIBURNACEAE (genus previously included in Adoxaceae, and before that Caprifoliaceae)
Initial Editorial Analysis 4 Oct 2006
Source of Report for California
a Thomas, J.H. 1961. Flora of the Santa Cruz Mountains of California. Stanford Univ. Press, Stanford, as cited in Kartesz & Meacham

c Hrusa et al., Madrono 49(2)61-98. 2002: DIST: CCo: Hrusa et al. Current Status: No current information: DOC: San Francisco Co.: Howell, J.T. et al. (1958, p. 131); Thomas, H. (1961, p. 327): NOTES: Local escape from cultivation.
Initial Editorial Comments in no way mentioned in Manual of Flowering Plants of California, Munz, Munz Supplement, The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1]; indicated only for California in Kartesz & Meacham; native to Medit.; according to Source c, status uncertain, evidently occurring as local escapes from cultivation, but cited reports not recent (12 Feb 2003)
Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 Treatment submitted for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] by Charles D. Bell see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates that for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] Viburnum tinus L. is not to be included among taxa that in California are native or naturalized. [Given that all known collections in California evidently were made from +- urban environments (see also the Consortium of California Herbaria Database), a Current Status of Jepson Flora Project-4 seems most appropriate at this time.]
Editorial Summary and Current Status
Editorial Summary rejection, not naturalized in CA, an urban weed
Current Status JFP-4, accepted name for taxon occurring in CA only as agricultural or garden weed
Current Status Authority The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2]
Current Status Date 4 Oct 2006
