Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 5 Dec 2003 e-mail from Jeff Greenhouse see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates that Richard K. Rabeler (Collections Manager, Vascular Plants, MICH), in a letter to M. Wetherwax dated 16 Jan 1997, has demonstrated that Piré's publication of the name Stellaria pallida was provisional (Piré, in Bull. Soc. Roy. Bot. Belg. 2:48--49, 1863, accepted the name Alsine pallida and only proposed the name Stellaria pallida if the genus Alsine was not considered distinct from Stellaria) [and therefore not valid according to Art. 34.1, ICBN (2000)]; and that the next [and valid] publication of Stellaria pallida was by François Crépin (Crép. in Authors of Plant Names) in Man. fl. Belgique ed. 2: 19 (1866). [Therefore, author citation corrected to Stellaria pallida (Dumort.) Crép., from Stellaria pallida (Dumort.) Piré previously in this Index, 5 Dec 2003.]
