Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 26 Aug 2004 e-mail from Jeff Greenhouse see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates that the combination Pinellia ternata was published by T. Makino (Makino in Authors of Plant Names) in Bot. Mag. Tokyo 15:135 (1901), where he ascribed the name to Breitenbach (Breitenb. in Authors of Plant Names), who had given earlier (Botanische Zeitung 37:687. 1879) Pinellia ternata only as a synonym of Arum ternatum, an action that does not constitute valid publication of a new name according to ICBN (2000) Art. 34.1(c). [Therefore, author citation corrected to Pinellia ternata (Thunb.) Breitenb. ex Makino, from Pinellia ternata (Thunb.) Makino ex Breitenbach previously in this Index, 28 Sep 2004.]
Correspondence 2 18 Feb 2008, from Editor of this Index and author of treatment for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] see Comment 2
Editorial Comments 2 UC577217, the sole record of this taxon in the Consortium of California Herbaria Database, was collected from Golden Gate Park, in conditions that do not qualify for inclusion in the flora according to criteria employed by Jepson Flora Project (18 Feb 2008), and that qualify instead as urban, so that a current status of Jepson Flora Project-4 is most appropriate at this time.
