Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 22 Aug 2003 e-mail from Richard Moe see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates that California Native Plant Society has this as a native species, pointing out that The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1] doesn't [in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1] it is indicated as naturalized in CA, and as native to Europe and the e coast of N. Am.], and that there are no specimens from California in SMASCH.
Correspondence 2 26 Aug 2003 e-mail from Jeff Greenhouse see Comment 2
Editorial Comments 2 Correspondence 2 indicates that Limosella subulata was published by Eli Ives (E. Ives in Authors of Plant Names) in Transactions of the Physico-Medical Society of New York 1:441 (1817). [Author abbreviation corrected to E. Ives, from Ives originally in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1] and this Index, 18 Sep 2003]
Correspondence 3 26 Aug 2003 e-mail from Jeff Greenhouse see Comment 3
Editorial Comments 3 Correspondence 3 indicates that, since 1991, Limosella subulata E. Ives has been treated as a synonym of Limosella australis R. Br. by some authors (e.g.: Kartesz & Meacham; C. Stace 1991, New Flora of the British Isles, p. 711; D. W. Magee and H. E.Ahles 1999, Flora of the Northeast, p. 913), while others (e.g. L. Brako and J. L. Zarucchi 1993, Catalogue of the Flowering Plants and Gymnosperms of Peru, p. 1093) have maintained them as separate species.
Correspondence 4 1 Dec 2004 e-mail from Misa Ward see Comment 4
Editorial Comments 4 Correspondence appended verbatim is pertinent to The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] account: "Known in California from several occurrences in the Delta; occurrence at Pt. Reyes NS, MRN Co. (485C) needs verification. Also found on the Atlantic Coast, where threatened by habitat destruction. Perhaps not native to CA; needs further study."
Correspondence 5 1 Mar 2011 e-mail from Margriet Wetherwax see Comment 5
Editorial Comments 5 Correspondence 5 indicates that for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] Limosella subulata E. Ives is to be treated as a synonym of Limosella australis R. Br., which is to be treated as naturalized in CA.
