Initial Editorial Comments | author citation uncertain, (Torr.) Torr. ex Nutt. in Kartesz & Meacham, (Torr.) Nutt. in International Plant Names Index-Gray Card Index; since The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1], treated as Linanthus pungens by J. M. Porter & L. A. Johnson (A Phylogenetic Classification of Polemoniaceae, Aliso 19(1):55-91. 2000)
Editorial Recommendation | author citation to be checked [resolved]
Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 | 2 Nov 2006 e-mail from Jeff Greenhouse see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 | Correspondence 1 indicates that Leptodactylon pungens was published by Rydberg (Rydb. in Authors of Plant Names) in Flora of Colorado (279. 1906), wherein Rydberg ascribed the name to "(Torr.) Nutt." and indicated it was based on Cantua pungens Torr. (Annals of the Lyceum of Natural History of New York 2:221. 1826), and that the inclusion of Nuttall (Journal of the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia ser. 2, 1:157. 1848) in the author citation in the manner indicated by Kartesz & Meacham and International Plant Names Index-Gray Card Index is incorrect since Nuttall merely included "L. pungens of Torrey" in a comment in the protologue of Leptodactylon caespitosum. [Therefore, author citation expanded to Leptodactylon pungens (Torr.) Nutt. ex Rydb., from Leptodactylon pungens (Torr.) Rydb. previously in this Index, 6 Nov 2006.]
Correspondence 2 | Treatment and author notes submitted for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] by Robert W. Patterson & Robyn Battaglia see Comment 2
Editorial Comments 2 | Correspondence 2 indicates that for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] Leptodactylon pungens (Torr.) Rydb. is to be treated as a synonym of Linanthus pungens (Torr.) J. M. Porter & L. A. Johnson.
