Source of Report for California The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1]
Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 19 Dec 2002 e-mail from Jeff Greenhouse see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates UC1259254 was determined to be Isoetes occidentalis by W. Carl Taylor (Flora North America co-author for Isoetes) in 1998, thus documenting this species for Kearny Mesa in San Diego Co. (SCo) at 500' (= 150 m), a locality well outside the elevation and distributional ranges in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1]; thus, "(150 m in SCo)" and "SCo (Kearny Mesa, San Diego Co.)" are to be added to the statement originally in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1], yielding "> 1500 m (150 m in SCo). KR. SNH, SCo (Kearny Mesa, San Diego Co.); to B.C., Colorado.
Correspondence 2 13 Jun 2011 e-mail from Alan R. Smith, including forwarded e-mails of 9 Sep 2011 from W. Carl Taylor, The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] author, to Alan Smith, as well as an earlier e-mail of 9 Sep 2011, from Smith to Taylor see Comment 2
Editorial Comments 2 Correspondence 2 includes confirmation from Carl Taylor that Alan Smith and Jon Rebman were correct in determining that UC1259254 in fact belongs to Isoetes howellii and does not belong to Isoetes occidentalis L. F. Hend., so that the latter is not confirmed for Kearny Mesa in San Diego Co., and therefore not for SCo either; Taylor also stated that in California Isoetes occidentalis L. F. Hend. does not occur as far south as SCo, nor as low in elevation as 150 m.
