Correspondence 3 | 13 Jul 2012 e-mail from Richard Moe see Comment 3
Editorial Comments 3 | Correspondence 3 includes reference to a paper (Sorrie 2011 Phytologia 93:270-271) in which it is stated that molecular and morphological analyses of the Cistaceae (Arrington 2004, Systematics of the Cistaceae. Ph.D. thesis, Duke University, Durham, North Carolina.) indicate that Helianthemum (Tourn.) P. Mill. as [then] circumscribed is polyphyletic and that all New World taxa are better placed in Crocanthemum Spach., and in which the combinations for California taxa in Crocanthemum are made, including Crocanthemum suffrutescens (B. Schreib.) Sorrie. [For The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2], Helianthemum suffrutescens B. Schreib. was listed as a synonym of Helianthemum scoparium Nutt., yet Crocanthemum suffrutescens (B. Schreib.) Sorrie is to be recognized in a treatment of the group in preparation for Flora North America by Sorrie (Sorrie e-mail of 22 Aug 2012, archived in mac mailbox tjmx) based on morphological as well as geographic distinctiveness, and so is recognized here as well.]
