| Editorial Comments 1 | Correspondence 1 includes reference to a paper (Sorrie 2011 Phytologia 93:270-271) in which it is stated that molecular and morphological analyses of the Cistaceae (Arrington 2004, Systematics of the Cistaceae. Ph.D. thesis, Duke University, Durham, North Carolina.) indicate that Helianthemum (Tourn.) P. Mill. as [then] circumscribed is polyphyletic and that all New World taxa are better placed in Crocanthemum Spach., and in which the combinations for California taxa in Crocanthemum are made, including Crocanthemum scoparium (Nutt.) Millsp.. [Sorrie actually cited Crocanthemum scoparium (Nutt. ex Torrey & A. Gray) Millsp., with Helianthemum scoparium Nutt. ex Torrey & A. Gray as the basionym, but in fact Helianthemum scoparium was published in Torrey & Gray, Flora of North America 1:152 (1838), wherein Torrey & Gray ascribed the name to "Nutt. mss." and quoted Nuttall's description, so that correct author citation is Helianthemum scoparium Nutt., as indicated in this Index.] | |||||
