Jepson Flora Project: Jepson Interchange for California Floristics
Euphorbia esula L.
EUPHORBIACEAE
Initial Editorial Analysis 19 Apr 2011
Source of Report for California The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1]
Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 1 Oct 2009 e-mail from Mark H. Mayfield, author of Euphorbia for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates that, following Dmitry Geltman (Ann. Bot. Fennici 35: 113-117. 1998), Euphorbia esula (as applied in N. America) will be treated in Flora North America [and, evidently, in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2]] under Euphorbia virgata Waldst. & Kit., and that such treatment is not without significant precedence as a solution [to an evidently difficult nomenclatural problem] that has been variously followed by Euphorbia specialists, and that there might not be any members of Euphorbia esula (as to type) naturalized in the US.
Correspondence 2 Treatment and author notes submitted for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] see Comment 2
Editorial Comments 2 Correspondence 2 indicates that for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] Euphorbia esula L. is to be treated as a name that in California has been misapplied to pls belonging instead to Euphorbia virgata Waldst. & Kit..
