Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 17 Apr 2007 e-mail from Bruce Baldwin, co-author of Dyssodia for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates: that, according to Dean Kelch, the weed herbarium has no records of Dyssodia papposa from CA; that Strother's Flora North America treatment indicating "Records of Dyssodia papposa from Ontario and from California, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, and Vermont evidently document local, probably ephemeral, introductions", is correct, at least as it pertains to the taxon in CA; that the sole population collected in the early 1950s [and represented by about four records in the Consortium of California Herbaria Database] occurred in an urban setting where much development has occurred since, so is likely extirpated; and that the only other record in the Consortium of California Herbaria Database is a specimen from the grounds of RSA, where it likely was cultivated. [Therefore, a Current Status Category of Jepson Flora Project-4 is most appropriate, although even as an urban weed the plants evidently have not persisted.]
