Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 9 Sep 2002 e-mail from Jeff Greenhouse see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates that, according to molecular and morphological evidence as presented in Baum, D. A., K. J. Sytsma, & P. C. Hoch (Syst. Bot. 19: 363-388. 1994) and in an e-mail from Peter C. Hoch (The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1] author) to Jeff Greenhouse of 5/14/98, the section of the Epilobium including the "fireweeds" (in North America, Epilobium angustifolium and Epilobium latifolium) is very distinct from the rest of the Epilobium, and should be segregated to Chamerion, so that for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] Epilobium angustifolium L. is to be treated as a synonym of Chamerion angustifolium (L.) Holub.
