Correspondence 1 19 Jan 2006 e-mail from Jon Rebman to Margriet Wetherwax, including a spreadsheet by Jon P. Rebman and Michael G. Simpson of taxa documented by voucher specimens or reported for San Diego County that were not addressed in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1]. see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates that Catalpa speciosa (Warder) Warder ex Engelm. has been documented with voucher specimen(s) for San Diego County since The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1]. [According to Floridata (http://www.floridata.com/ref/C/cata_spe.cfm), "The original range of Catalpa speciosa is somewhat uncertain. It is apparently from an area stretching from Indiana to northern Arkansas where it inhabits the rich valley soils of the Mississippi River basin. At one time it was extensively planted for use as fence posts and as a result is widely naturalized throughout the midwestern and parts of the southeastern United States.", and "Northern catalpa is invasive (including some urban areas). Those living outside its native range should check locally to see if this tree is a problem in your area."]
Correspondence 2 Treatment and author notes submitted for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] by Læcia G. Lohmann see Comment 2
Editorial Comments 2 Correspondence 2 indicates that for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] Catalpa speciosa (Warder) Warder ex Engelm. is to be treated as naturalized in CA.
