Bailey (=Authors of Plant Names) in Memoirs of the Torrey Botanical Club 1(1): 57 (1889), and that Bailey cited Torrey's earlier publication of the name (Annals of the Lyceum of Natural History of New-York 3:389. 1836), which was a nom. nud., but supplied his own description (giving Torr. ex L.H. Bailey), thus verifying the pending author citation corrections for Carex texensis and Carex retroflexa var. texensis indicated by Correspondence 1. Bailey with his own description; and that Bailey's reference to the 1836 publication by Torrey then serves as a very indirect basionym reference to his own 1889 publication and validates Carex texensis (Torr. ex L.H.
