Jepson Flora Project: Jepson Interchange for California Floristics
Bryonia dioica Jacq.
CUCURBITACEAE
Initial Editorial Analysis 30 Apr 2008
Source of Report for California The Jepson Manual [Ed. 1]
Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 30 Apr 2008 e-mail, and forwarded earlier e-mails, from John M. Miller, author of Cucurbitaceae for The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2] see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates that there are no specimens of Bryonia dioica Jacq. in the Consortium of California Herbaria Database, and that the only source of information on this species in California is a 50-year old Flora of San Francisco, published in the Wasmann Journal of Botany, which [evidently] indicates that the plants were escaping from cultivation at that time. [Therefore, it seems most appropriate at this time to consider this taxon an historical waif in CA, and therefore to not treat it in The Jepson Manual [Ed. 2].]
