Correspondence and Comments Subsequent to Initial Analysis
Correspondence 1 13 Jul 2004 e-mail from Jeff Greenhouse see Comment 1
Editorial Comments 1 Correspondence 1 indicates that the basionym for Abies grandis (Penny Cyclopaedia 1:30. 1833) is Pinus grandis, published by Donald Don (D. Don in Authors of Plant Names) in A. B. Lambert (Lamb. in Authors of Plant Names), Description of the Genus Pinus, ed. 3, 2: unnumbered page between 144 and 145 (1832); Lambert's preface in v. 1 states that Donald Don wrote the descriptions for the new plants [hence, D. Don in Lamb.], and Don ascribed only the name Pinus grandis [and not the description] to Douglas [hence, Douglas ex D. Don, so that the whole citation for the basionym could be Douglas ex D. Don in Lamb., in which Douglas and Lamb. are both optional according to ICBN]. [Therefore, author citation corrected to Abies grandis (Douglas ex D. Don) Lindl. , from Abies grandis (Douglas) Lindl. previously in this Index, 6 Aug 2004.]
