Leaves ± basal; sheaths < 3 cm; upper blades 38 cm, flat, glabrous
Inflorescence: spikelet 1, 35 mm, ± 2 mm wide; bract 1, 0.20.6(2) cm, erect, stiff, stem-like; flower bract ± 1.5 mm, glabrous, greenish to pale or dark orange- to red-brown, keeled near abruptly pointed tip
Flower: perianth bristles 0; stigmas (2)3
Fruit ± 1 mm, sharply 3-angled, brown; sides strongly convex, finely papillate or pitted in vertical rows; beak minute
Ecology: Moist, generally sandy soils
Elevation: < 800 m.
