Etymology: (J.H. von Heucher, German professor of medicine, 16771747)
Reference: [Rosendahl, Butters, & Lakela 1936 Minn Stud Plant Sci 2:1180]
A very difficult genus, highly variable at many levels and needing much additional research.

Leaf: petiole 25 cm; blade 25 cm, round, shallowly 57-lobed
Inflorescence 723 cm, narrow, ± open between flower clusters, glandular
Flower radial; part of hypanthium fused to ovary 1.52.5 mm, > free part, together with calyx lobes (2)35 mm; calyx lobes equal, pink; petals ± 1.5 mm, 2 X calyx lobes, oblanceolate; stamens > calyx lobes, exserted; mature styles < 1.8 mm, barely exserted
Ecology: Uncommon. Dry, rocky areas
Elevation: 15002500 m.
Bioregional distribution: Klamath Ranges
Distribution outside California: sw Oregon
Otherwise like H. pilosissima. Plants with flowers 23 mm, slightly more exserted stamens and styles may be called H. pringlei Rydb., are possibly of hybrid origin
