Description

Collection locality: Taveuni Island, Fiji
Elevation: 766.6 meters
Substrate: At Bouma Falls, on tree near falls, full shade
at 3rd fall, Mitthyridium w/ sporophytes

Taveuni Island is the largest Eastern island and supports the highest density of forest cover per unit area. Much of the forest is primary or sccondary.

On trail to Lake Tagimoucia, a lake at the highest point on the island filling the crater of a still active volcano. Hike dry at base and progressively wetter as we hiked into the Cloud Forest.

Collection site
The obtusifolium clade is one of the most geographically restricted in Mitthyridium. obtusifolium is restricted to the southeastern islands of the Pacfic Ocean. It is often found on coconut palms below 300 m. The clade's closest relative is micro-undulatum, its Indian Ocean counterparts.
