TRAVEL PHOTOS

The following photos were taken during the summer of 1999, while I was doing fieldwork on the island of Mo'orea, French Polynesia. Most of these photos were taken on Mo'orea, where I was based at the Gump Biological Research Station, but I also did fieldwork on Tahiti, Raiatea, and Taha'a.

Here I am scrutinizing something in the thick vegetation growing along the Mt. Rotui trail. Opunohu Bay is in the background. It's not very apparent here, but this trail is
very, very narrow. The thick plant growth, especially Dicranopteris, makes the volcanic ridgetop trail look deceptively non-precipitous.
