General Interests:

I am interested in studying the interaction of plants and people in terms of cultural and biological factors, while being critical of the culturally-determined aspects of my role as a scientist. In pursuing this area of study, I want to explore different ways of uncovering or constructing a common thread between the social and natural sciences. This common thread could consist of analogies; of social explanations of natural phenomona and natural explanations of social phenomena; of theoretical borrowings between disciplines. In any case, it is my hope that through my research I will use different modes of inquiry to mutual advantage in the examination of an inherently interdisciplinary subject: the interaction between people and the plant world.
