SO BE FREE #2

March 22 - 25, 1997

UC Angelo Coastal Reserve, CA

The second year,  we stayed at the UC Angelo Reserve, in the north coast ranges of Mendocino County. The Angelo Reserve, on the Eel River, contains a large stand of old growth Douglas Fir and Redwoods. The old growth forests, with its snags, downed logs, dense canopy, and clear flowing streams, supports an abundance and diversity of plants and wildlife. We stayed in Fox Creek Lodge and enjoyed hikes all over the Reserve into a number of forest and riparian habitats. Comet Hale-Bopp (an even bigger comet) was at perigee; it seemed to fill the clear night sky.
